I can't reproduce the issue - i just replied to a few comment threads this morning, it's pretty fast.

I talked to Mike Hostetler about this in the past, he suggested that this is happening because MySQL tables need to be optimized - and after he did it, perf became much better. Mike also added a little scriplet to a daily CRON job to do this optimization every day. Maybe this job should be run hourly instead?
